Since October 7, 2023, more than 658,000 students in Gaza have been completely deprived of their right to education due to continuous bombardment and internal displacement, with statistics indicating that around 90% of them have been displaced multiple times across the Gaza Strip. At the same time, reports reveal that 496 school buildings have been completely or partially destroyed, exacerbating the educational crisis in the region.
Despite these difficult circumstances, 32 partner organizations have reached more than 365,000 students and teachers (46% male and 54% female) by providing psychosocial support, launching emergency education programs, offering supplies and recreational activities, and conducting awareness sessions. Additionally, as of November 30, the Education Cluster identified 424 temporary learning spaces (TLS) to support the continuity of the educational process.
The MA’AN Development Center has played a significant role in enrolling and engaging 5,626 students (2,860 females and 2,766 males) in educational activities across 12 temporary learning spaces (SLS). A total of 8,681 educational sessions were conducted in these centers, covering Arabic (2,997 sessions), Mathematics (2,734 sessions), English (1,833 sessions), and Science (1,117 sessions).
MA’AN’s team adopted active learning methodologies and developed unified educational plans for the core subjects (Arabic, Mathematics, English, and Science) in line with the Ministry of Education’s standards (Education Backpacks). Additionally, pre- and post-test formats were designed to measure student progress, focusing on enhancing essential skills in reading, writing, numeracy, speaking, and listening.
These efforts reflect the commitment of partner organizations and local centers to alleviating the suffering of students in Gaza and ensuring the continuity of education despite the enormous challenges faced by the region.
